In a few days, i will be turning 26…
officially late in my late 20s.
Time flies? oh no, u have no idea, i didn’t even know how
did i got here. lol. the last time i rmbed, i was only 21. now
i m already half past my twenties. in the last one year, i guess
i’ve grown up a lot.. things in my life started to change it’s value,
i see things differently, i think differently. just a year, things can
change so much.
For the longest time, i didn’t care anything in my life except
looking good and buy nice clothes. lol. yes i m that shallow,
i still am. but i care about work, future, and career, i care abt
things that value add to me or my portfolio. small little things
will be benefit me in the long run. but being vain still a huge part
of me, i cant imagine me being not vain. who yutaki will be?
I used to spent every cent i have, i shop like crazy without 2nd
thoughts on wad i wanna buy. my shopping methology was
“buy now, regret later.” But now, i take a super long time to
consider on anything that i want to buy, save every bit whenever
i could. i save up more than 50% of wadever i earn now.
I was a full time camwhore, i used to only take pics of myself, i
actually get really offended if some stranger request me to shoot
them. but now, i started shooting others to expand portfolio and
accepting paid photography projects.
I had stop partying completely. the last time i step into a club was…
shit, i couldn’t even rmb! i start partying when i was 16, i was still
party animal 2 years back. i could go partying 3-4 times a week.
For the past year the friends around me are wad i most thankful for.
They are my soul supports, they kept me accompanied when i m
alone, cheer me up when i m down, there for me when i m sick,
believe in me when i dont think i could make it. this group of friends
who are so drama-free, always have my back. this group of friends
who i am very proud of and wish that they stay for the rest my life.
the best group of friends that i had in my life so far. i enjoy every bit
when i m with them, i see them every week, sometimes a few times
a week, we will hang out till moring, watching movies all night, or just
have really long talks. these little things i cant be thankful enuff…
thank you, sandy, yanyan, sophie, qiu, miyake and shuyin.
I’ve also learn to be more thankful and appreciative. less calculative
and focus on positive things i have in my life. learn to give more than
wad i take. enjoy the joy of appreciating a life of being me, i m actually
very lucky, very fortunate.
I m not sure if life is changing for the better, because a part of me
still love to be that total carefree, vain, party crazy, young person i used
to be. i guess i have to grow up at some point in my life, this year
had been the best time, i always believe everything happen for a
reason and i swear god had my path lay out right in front of me, i just
had to trust him and follow his lead.
In 3 days, it will be my bday, this year, i m letting a event organizer
and a few other sponsors taking charge of the birthday party, i used
to be very anal on my own bday party, i even bought my own bday
cakes every other year just so its the flavour i like. I m gonna go with
the flow this year.
And no, i will not be going to partying or drinking this year, just a small
gathering of my favourite people in my life right now.
Heading to Japan next month for the 3rd time, for work, actually tot
of blogging the previous two trips before this one, but i was too busy.
too much work and assignments. Right after the Bday party, i will be
having 2 very important shoot coming up, one overseas, one local.
wish me luck!

<A Flower Boy’s Tale> unpublished work, this was actually one of the
highlight look, because, it was featuring the signature tokyo tower. but i
found it a bit too out of the place and a bit too edgy to fit into the dreamy
theme photobook as whole. so i took it out last min.

It’s my bday month!!! May! For the past 3 years
I’ve been publishing a online photobook every
other year, the final conclusion photobook was
published last year, and I mention in the last
photobook, that I will be focusing on photography
and future career related projects in the future
And indeed I did.
For the last 20 months, I have engaged about 40
over blog advertorials, the moment I stop I working
on my last online photobook, [A Flower Boy’s Tale]
I have been working on blog advertorial projects.
My advertorial projects peak from last year June
right after I published my last photobook. For the
12 months alone, I produced over 30 concept projects.
And I m very proud to say 2013/2014 is my blog’s
most hardworking year!!

For production of my online photobooks, they wasn’t
paid, I didn’t make any profit out from them, it’s totally
out of interest and hobby, I produce about 22-30 looks
every year in each photobook.
In the year of 2012/2014, I focused on concept
advertorials, In this post, I’ve hand picked 20 best
projects that I love the most, there are a total of 33
looks across 20 advertorials in this [Best Of Yutakis’

So in another words, i still kinda did produce a online
photobook this year, but its spread out and post across
the entire year instead of one shot. and the best part
is… it’s all paid. lol. Blogging is my job now!
Aside from talking about the production, I’ve also
worked with a lot of very very awesome clients, like
Mentholatum, Singpost, Missha, Casio and many
many more!
If you noticed, my concept advertorials are all photo
book styled, similar to my previous online photobooks
concepts. I guess concept advertorials and online
photobook has becoming a trademark of

also something that is unique to my blog.

One of my earliest advertorial before I started actively
accepting projects. The biggest reason I’ve include this
inside the top 20 concept projects is its one of the rare
project I accepted which is about fashion labels.
Satisfaction Guaranteed is a 100% Japan design and made
brand that is imported to singapore, I was very pleased
to be one of the exclusive male blogger who they engaged.
I changed 3 hair styles within 3 hours for the shoot, if
you noticed I curled and tried varies ways to style it. It
was a fun shoot and yet a super rush shoot!

The beginning of all photobook concept advertorials!
One of my personal favorite post, this post was taken
back when I still have long locks!! Right after I finish
shooting for my 3rd online photobook. This post was
taken at a already closed down Antoinette outlet! I super
love this outlet as there wasn’t much crowd. It was so
empty that I could go all out taking pics everywhere
without being photobombed.
The 1st time I combined desserts, pastries and the
featured product together, it turns out really awesome,
the sponsored product, Casio Tr150 blends in very very
well with bakery and pastel setting, this experiment
expansion a lot of directions for my future product shoots!

A Picnic with

This sponsored concept mini photobook advert is for
a friend of mine, Peggy Chang, the creator of the The
Tiramisu Hero, when Peggy told me that she wanna
send me some of her tiramisu, I was very very excited
cos they look so pretty on her blog and website. When
I receive them, I know they deserve more than just a
Instagram plug, I dressed up, grab my dslr and some
picnic props, I went out to opposite of my house…
TADAH! The mini photobook is born!
Outdoor shoot really need a good weather, I had tons
of bad experience with blazing hot weathers in sg and
the shoot go terrible. But the day that I took this set of
pictures, it was surprisingly windy and sunny at the
same time!

– The Christmas Eve –

The 2nd collaboration with Casio, this time I wanna
showcase the camera is awesome for night shots and
low light photography, also to mesh up with Christmas
theme… I picked the perfect place to shoot this advert,
scarlet hotel’s bar/cafe.
This Xmas theme concept is also one of my top favorite…
As the product and theme blends almost flawlessly. Well,
i can’t seem to choose one best, but among thetop 20,
I like almost all of them. Lol.

L’hotel Étude
– Chapter: The Club Hotel –

I started this L’hotel Étude (Hotel Project in French),
where I partnered with a fellow blogger to review
local boutique hotels. It lasted 3 reviews, and my
schedule got really really crazy and unable to continue.
Even though I’ve received a few more hotel invitations
for the further review projects.
The debut project was taken at The Club Hotel, As
before the shoot, I did some research, the hotel is black
and white in color theme. So I styled myself into two
looks, the black and white accordingly.

– Chapter: New Majestic Hotel –

For the 2nd hotel boutique review/photoshoot, it was
held at one of my favorite local boutique hotel!!! New
Majestic Hotel is no stranger to my blog, I celebrated
a few birthdays there, this time back to this hotel, I
coordinated 2 looks, one blue, one red. The blue look
is to go with the hall/swimming pool as they are blue
themed. As for the red it’s for the room itself, the room
is painted in red!
The room that I got, was Premier Garden room, that
comes with a private mini back garden, it have the best
sunset lighting. I took a set of pics that I really really
love, I used one these pics as my Instagram profile pic!
if you noticed, I rarely change my profile pics, especially
on Instagram.

L’hotel Étude
– Chapter: The Scarlet Hotel –

The last Hotel review, it was held at The Scarlet Hotel
another hotel that I super love, I also celebrate my
birthdays here, but didn’t actually did a proper solo
photoshoot here, I plan two looks, one warm and dark,
the crazy amount of roses were sponsored by mirage
flowers and they are used for one of my 3rd photobook
shoots!
There were a total of 100 stalks of pink roses!

Another concept advertorial that is taken in a cafe,
but this time it’s a more vintage and artsy one, the
previous cafes I picked are all more towards the
Victorian and dreamy style.
You may not able to tell, this cafe was FULLY PACKED
when I shot for this advert, one of the most crowded
cafes that I’ve been to, it was extremely challenging,
as much as I love to camwhore and pretty shameless
when comes to phototaking, but it’s still quite
uncomfortable to shoot in crowded places.
As there was even a queue outside the cafe so I gotta
finish the shoot as fast as I could, surprisingly the
photos turns out awesome, even with the limited time
and crowd issues. I thank the god of photography for
the blessing. Lol.

one of the least effort yet turn our really well concept
advertorials!
Well, this breakfast theme advert wasn’t taken in the
morning, and it looks like it was taken on a table, but no,
I was laying on the floor. Uncomfortable me die! Lol.

– Delicious Eyes Project –

It’s one of my by far most extensive of advertorial that
come have a total of 6 entries! To present the different
color lens with different styles, I styled up to 6 extreme
looks, each different pair of lens inspired a different look!
It was also of the tedious advert shoot I ever done, the
different color backgrounds stick to the wall all by
myself and also change looks after finishing each look,
and I stay up all night finishing all the look, it took me
2 nights to finish the entire production. And it was one
of my most successful and most applauded advert too!
The debut this “different persona/multi character”
advertorial style inspired a lot of bloggers to try out
similar advert shoot too! And I swear it fun to disguise
and dress up as someone else for shoots. I felt like
I m a spy. Lol.

in very well with the flowers presentation. Since the
products are made in Japan, I made the shoot closely
based by Japanese style too. The concept is inspired
by a combination of Japanese Mori Style and Wizards.

At the same time as eyecandy’s long term project,
Missha engaged me for a long term project as well, I
was so happy and thrilled to work with two big brands/
companies, but it’s also a huge challenge to produce 2
full length concept advertorial post every month,
especially for Missha Urban Soul Project, the products
were not be given until the beginning of the month,
and I will have brainstorm and style a shoot within a
week or two just to meet the deadline.
For the debut post, I wanted a more matured and
spotlight/show time style. To show that it’s a brand new
project debut! The blacks curtain are all real, the
spotlight were photoshopped on. I had tons of fun with
photoshop on this set of photos.

For the 2nd project post, it’s a deep sea and hydration
related skin care products, so there’s no better theme
than a wet/blue theme. I continued the concept of
matured and new age man look.
This shoot was done at a studio with a help of a friend,
one funny thing about this shoot is that, I was actually
holding a bottle of face mist the entire time, to keep the
“water” dripping effect.

3rd post for Missha project post. After the first two posts,
the client was very very please by the photos and even
decided to officially use my self photoshoot photos for
their upcoming print-out magazine advertisement! This
is a crazy huge achievement for me, i just a blogger, who
is NOT a model and also not a professionally trained
photographer. Being the new face of a Korea famous
men’s line is such a honor, on top of that, I m the
photographer, stylist and also the producer for the
photos!!!
The white series are inspired by prism, bokeh and
reflections, which I super love! And a few weeks later,
my photo was really published on Female magazine…
This really top my concept advertorial achievement!

For the 4th project post was in conjunction with valentine’s
day and the skin care projects are in red… No better theme
than a romantic/maroon theme shoot, I wanted to have a
vampire vibe shoot to this series, as they always has been
associate with romance these days, the recent greatest
romance movies/ TV series are all based on vampires.
I spent 2-3 hours on this shoot background, these petals
are stick on to the background one by one with double
sided tape. I swear It was mad, half way through the
preparation I almost gave up, you need tons of patience
for setup like this.

The last post for Missha project. If you noticed, all of the
Missha projects are included in this top 20 concept advert
collection… As each and every single of them I put in a
lot of effort and personally really really love them!
The 1st Missha project post that featured a product that is
unisex, for the 1st 5 posts were all Missha products for
Men, therefore this shoot I decided to do outdoor and
create a more causal look, less serious/less formal than
the previous 5 posts. Since it’s a sun block, summer and
outdoor theme is perfect!

Galaxy magical Concept advertorial!
This concept is inspired by 2NE1 2014 world tour
photoshoot, I did a guy version of shoot and blend in
the kiss cream from Thailand! There are a total of 2 looks,
I bought the galaxy top specially for this shoot and it’s
really outrageous, it’s bright purple, even more
outrageous in real life. Lol
I previously did a galaxy theme shoot when I was 19!
Back then my photoshop skills wasn’t brushed up,
I think I did better this time.

I went a bit crazy for this one. I bought 4 bottles of 2L of
milk in Bangkok and filled up the bath tub with Milk and
shot for this concept advert.
This shoot have one of the most interesting behind the
scene story, i was topless and was only in underwear for
this shoot, I was almost electrocuted during the shoot,
the ring-light I used almost wasthisclose to drop into the
bathtub full of milk. For a moment I tot I will be dead, I
told the girls about this, they said if I really die, that will
be the most fabulous way to die, me, in undies, bathtub
full of milk and while I m camwhoring… Fabulous death
is the way to go. Lol.

Singpost X Yutakis
– Love Letters –

The most recent and also the most tedious concept
advertorial I have this year, I think for a really long time
how on to shoot and advert for a hello kitty stamp
collection, the client request that that my face have to
appear in the advert, the easiest way will be me post
posing and camwhore with the stamps or stamp book..
But not my style for a concept advert.
I tot for a really long time on how to smoothly include
my face into the blog post… Then TADAH! I had a brilliant
idea of taking the entire advert photos on PolaPhotos.
I arranged a setting of a “afternoon-hi-tea, writing hand
written mails” to my readers. Basic stationaries, food
and afternoon hi-tea snacks and desserts included.
Also PolaPhotos of myself included in the mails, for my
readers. It was a perfect blend…
But the production for this advert was.. Too long.. It
took about 3-4 days, from shopping to shoot for the
stamps, take pics for the two looks on Polaroids.
As I only have 1 copy of the stamp collection, I have to
break the photo taking sessions into 3 parts. Firstly I
gotta take photos of the stamp folder set as a whole,
then I tear the stamps out and stick them on the envelopes
and shot the Polaroids photos with the envelopes.
Lastly, I shot the hand written letters with the envelopes
on the next day… It’s really tedious as i brainstorm a
really long time on how with the stamp folder as a full
piece and tearing them out.
But it was all worth it! I really really love the post!

One thing I believe strongly is to take pride in things
you love to do, it kinda make me feel sad that the
blogging scene are no longer like how it used to be,
a lot of bloggers are no longer putting in hard work
on their entries and even on paid engagements..
bloggers no longer one man show, some hired
photographers, some pay videographers or even pay
other talents to do their entires for them… It seems like
being hardworking is not the only way to succeed as a
blogger anymore.
I m still very traditional when comes
to blogging, I believe this is my blog, my dairy, my work.
Not gonna make this space any less “yutaki’s hand made”,
since adverts are paid, I will put extra effort to make
readers interested in the entires and attract more
eyeballs and make my client’s every cent worth it.
I hope I could continue to peak in blogging this year…
But to think about it, actually the next half a year I have
a lot of other engagements coming up too, so I might
have to be more selective on accepting adverts if there
are too much projects going on. oh god, this post took
me 3 days to finish writting!!!
