everything about this baby!

Theme
The photobook is broken into 3 chapters like its
name, a tale, a story-book-styled photobook.
The major theme of the chapters;

P1

Chapter 1: Sonnets Of A Dandy
– Victorian Vintage themed.

bor

P2-

Chapter 2: The Flower Tales
– Fairy Tale themed.

bor

P3

Chapter 3: Urban boy’s Legend
– New Age City themed.

Direction

There are two major elements on the photobook,
role-playing and flowers. In fact in the previous
two volumes, role-playing and flowers are present,
always present. But in the 3rd book, it become the
center focus of the entire book. 3 times more
role-playing, 3 times more flowers.

Majority of the photos in [ A FLOWER BOY’S TALE ]
are taken in Japan, Nagasaki. Other sets are shot in
places like, tokyo, Japan, Genting, Malaysia, Macau,
Hong Kong, China, Bangkok,Thailand and local,
Singapore.

You could see beautiful sceneries taken in this
amazing theme park, called HUIS TEN BOSCH,
located in Nagasaki, Japan. This theme park is beyond
amazing, but I went there at the worst timing, summer,
it was crazy hot. But if you travel there at the right
season, like Cheesie, you will enjoy the place to
the maximum.

Collaborations

08

This is the 1st time I also collaborate with a really
talented fashion photographer, Lenne. She was my
semi human tripod for 3 sets of pictures that are
featured in the photobook, The [Fallen Angel],
[The Florist] and [“Where were we again?”]
Honestly I really love her work, you can
check out her work on her pretty blog.

and accessories brands like Givenchy, Vivienne
Westwood, Christian louboutin, Tommy, Louis

ps

We are living in an age of a DIY. Dream It Yourself.
There are so many talented young people out there,
doing all sorts of the creative things, they self-
produced their own songs, music videos, tutorials
videos, short films, self direct, self script, self
production, they are everywhere. We are living
in an era where dreams are possible, if you have
a talent, you are not shy to show it, the Internet is
your stage.

10

Here I am, my dream has been always to have my
own photobook, at the age of 25, I self-produced 3
major online photobooks, this year I made history
for myself, I self published my own 1st photobook.
Everything on my own. This is such a huge dream
come true for me. To me, it’s nothing less compared
to, a self-produced singer’s song is FINALLY released
on iTunes, a self-directed short film premiere on the
big screen. My passion, my dream is nothing different
from these passionate talents.

01

Living with this big dream, I m indeed lucky, I have a
lot of friends who help me along the way. I had so
been through so much rejections, met so much
people who were up to no good, empty promises,
last minutes backouts, or try to sell my photobook
at their own profit. There were so much time, money,
effort, tears and sweat behind self-produced
photobook…

p5

Some friends don’t understand why am I so
persistent over something that is silly in their eyes,
some friends think I m a completely waste of time,
some friends have absolutely no faith in me, they
assure me that I will never able to make it. Of cos
there are that few wonderful friends who stood by
me, gave me endless encouragements, as excited
as I am when the photobook is finally done. I m
blessed to have those wonderful friends.

11

Maybe in any other fields, self production are
way more common. There are tons of talents.
But in my field, self-produced photobooks,
I might be the first. And I m glad that I m brave
enough to do it, cos, at the end of the day…
YOLO.

16

bor

I m really excited, I m so generous this time,
this sneak preview blog post, I total reveal 16 looks
from the photobook! Normally I never do that!
Previous photobooks, I only reveal maybe 5-8 look
maximum for sneak previews… Lol.

Stay tune, and make sure you have great internet
connection on the day of publication… Lol, that day
always mark the highest traffic of my blog in the year!

Yutaki, I’ve followed your blog for a while, and you have never disappointed me with your updates. In fact, every update just made me even more amazed at your talent and persistence. They say that producing something amazing takes both talent and hard work. Judging by “A Flower Boy’s Tale”, you have the first in overflowing abundance and you’ve put all your sweat, blood and tears into the second. All of the shots look effortless and beautiful, but I have no doubt you’ve toiled endlessly to arrange everything perfectly. I can’t even begin to imagine how much time and effort you’ve spent just planning each concept, not to mention executing and polishing. What you’ve produced would be impressive even with a whole team behind you, with different people in charge of each task (hair, makeup, costume, props, etc). But the fact that it was basically just you? I’m speechless.

You’ve worked really hard and produced many amazing photos over the years, and this photobook is the culmination of all of your perseverence. Again, I must stress that while I’m extremely admiring of your talent, I can’t just write off your work as talent. You didn’t just anyhow throw trinkets around and dunk your face in a palette to get the looks. Each frame was meticulously planned and set up. An article I read once stated “You can’t just be jealous of someone’s skill. You’d also have to be jealous of all the work they put into gaining it.” You’ve paid your dues and worked hard to polish your abilities. And many people would be so, so jealous of your talent in capturing beauty (including me), but I think few would be willing to put in as much effort as you did.

The photobook is beautiful. And you are also beautiful: handsome on the outside and strong, persistent and amazingly talented. If I should have the honor of winning this photobook, I will cherish it as a symbol of what hard work and passion can accomplish. I really think of you as a role model actually; looking at your blog and accomplishments lights a fire under my ass to work harder and be better.

Great job, Yutaki. No: Amazing, beautiful job. I look forward to seeing the rest of the images, and I can’t wait to see what you come up with in the future!

All the best,

Lilly
